NZ U17s Take Cricket to Sri Lanka

Rathkeale College’s U17 cricket tour to Sri Lanka combined competitive sport and cultural exploration across 12 action-packed days. From Negombo, the group embarked on a spectacular journey through some of Sri Lanka’s best known landmarks. Their itinerary included an early morning climb up Sigiriya Rock, a wildlife safari in Minneriya National Park, scenic train travel through tea country from Nanu Oya to Ella, and visits to the historic Galle Dutch Fort and the Foundation of Goodness.
On the pitch, they tested their skills against some excellent local opposition over six matches. Competing at venues such as Asgiriya Stadium in Kandy, MCC Lords Ground in Hikkaduwa, and the Singhalese Sports Club (SSC) in Colombo.
The smoothrunning itinerary ensured the New Zealand squad could focus entirely on enjoying their sports travel experience. Speaking after their return, the tour leaders praised the ground support and trip organisation, sharing:
"We arrived back in New Zealand after a fantastic tour of Sri Lanka. The entire tour party thoroughly enjoyed the experience, and it was a great success from start to finish. Your team on the ground was outstanding to work with. They were professional, helpful, and ensured everything ran smoothly throughout the tour. It was another excellent trip organised by Sporta, and we really appreciate all the effort that went in behind the scenes to make it such an enjoyable and memorable experience for everyone involved.”
